I like to change my holiday design schemes slightly from year to year which naturally includes my Christmas trees. When we first got married, we had a smattering of ornaments passed down from this one and that one, but after a while I started gathering my own.
I enjoy giving my trees a differing design scheme from year to year. Some years I've used kelly greens and silvers, while other years I've paired up burnt oranges and reds, but one element remains constant and it's what I call 'the essentials'.
These are my tried and true tree ornaments and picks that I use each year. So long as that stays the same, I can change out looks and designs without starting from the beginning.
Everyone's essentials can look different, but you want to start with something neutral. This can be wooden ornaments and garlands, or golds whites and silvers.
I really enjoy the look of mercury glass on a flocked tree. Here are some delightful mercury glass ornaments:

TREE PICKS
Another part of the essential list are tree picks, they add wonderful texture and add layers of dimension and engagement from the on looker! I like to frequent Michael's, Hobby Lobby and craft stores for tree picks.

RIBBON
Then you can have fun changing up the design of the tree using ribbons and varying accessories!
